Introduction, due on September 1

  • This should be my last semester of the master's degree in CS, pending my two final classes and thesis.
  • Linear Algebra
  • I work in the Internet Security Research Lab in the Computer Science department. I enjoy applied cryptography, but would like to know more of the underlying math. I think this may be useful if I come across a security or research job in my career. Also, honestly, I am hoping that this class will require less time commitment than a 400-level CS class I was considering.
  • I think I used one of the popular math programs just a little bit in a Stats class, but I do not have significant experience. I do have experience in general programming from the CS classes I have taken and various jobs I have had. I feel comfortable in being able to figure out a math package sufficiently to complete homework assignments.
  • I feel that I learned effectively from my linear algebra professor. I felt like all the concepts of the course were tied together effectively, rather than like we were just looking at unrelated topics. I also liked my 7th grade math teacher, but I don't remember many specifics of her teaching style.
  • I'm a pretty big BYU football fan. BYU Independent? Quarterback battle? Wow. Also, I have a son named Alan:
  • Your office hours should work for me, and being a non-Math major, I may be using them :-)
