3.4-3.5, due on October 4

  1. (Difficult) Without really thinking much about the arithmetic, I had a kind of hard time following the Chinese Remainder Theorem through.  That's a nice thing about this class though, is I bet I will understand it better either after class on Monday, or after a homework assignment has us practice some.  I also didn't follow the modular exponentiation to well, but I have looked at that some before, and I hope it will come back.
  2. (Reflective) Chapter 3 is interesting.  It has a lot of math, without saying too much about why it's important.  I supposed I like the setup of the book, because a lot of the math ideas are probably used in various ways in cryptography, so it's probably nice to have a reference to look back on.  I also like the way the class is set up, because it seems we often look at how the math can be used (although I think there are some things about primes and also working with a modulus that we may not know why is significant yet? Maybe not.)  I am curious how the Chinese Remainder Theorem will apply.
