- (Difficult) The speaker's presentation seemed designed for a pretty general audience, so there wasn't really all that much technically difficult to understand. It would be hard to understand some of the more difficult ciphers, but I don't think that was the point of the presentation.
- (Reflective) I didn't realize how pervasive the use of cryptography was in the time period of the early Church. It would make sense that there were private messages that needed to be sent securely, though. I think I had head that Parley P. Pratt had been killed out in Arkansas, but I had never heard that cryptography was part of the story. It's important to remember that at times cryptography can be life or death (but not usually, fortunately).
